Backend Developer for Educational Game Engine

Job description

Bomberbot is an educational game that teaches children the basics of programming. We support teachers with little to no technical background to teach about technology and prepare their students for the digital age. The game is accompanied by a platform for teachers and a curriculum teaching fundamental concepts. Next to this game we are building a new product: an educational game engine aimed at creative self expression and sharing/publication. For this new product we are looking for a backend developer to build and maintain the database and its API.

We are a small and young team with a passion for changing education. Bomberbot empowers teachers to bring programming education to their pupils. Bomberbot offers online lesson plans for teachers, a game for pupils to practise the programming concepts with a focus on making programming easy and fun. We have reached over 70,000 children in 2016 and 8 out of 10 teachers are actively recommending Bomberbot to their colleagues.

Requirements

Role:

  • Building the database and its API
  • Profiling the API and solving bottlenecks
  • Continuously improve security

Experience:

  • You are experienced with several database systems (preferably PostgreSQL and MongoDB)
  • You have experience with maintaining production databases
  • You can work autonomously on projects
